Junior Hurricanes Prepare
for Playoffs
The Space
Coast Jr. Hurricanes are gearing up for the playoffs that
will take place in Pittsburgh, PA March 14 – 16th.
The CHA’S top six teams will battle it out for the League’s
best team, as well as a trip to Nationals.
The Jr.
Hurricanes finished off the season last weekend in
Charlotte, NC at the Xtreme Ice Center where Team Carolina
was hosting the season’s final showcase. They started off
the showcase with a strong victory against the New Jersey
Wildcats by the score of 5 – 1. The next morning had them
facing off against a young very talented NY Apple Core. The
“Canes” outshot them 52 – 16, but the team from New York
found a way to tie the game with less than five minutes
remaining in the game. The Hurricanes got plenty of chances
in the remaining five minutes, but the Apple Core goalie
came up big and ended the game with a 5-5 tie.
The third
game was against the East Coast Eagles, who took the place
of the Brewster Bulldogs who seized operations early in the
season. In that contest, the Hurricanes dominated all ends
of the ice and walked away with a 5-0 win. In their final
game of the season, the Binghamton Senators managed to score
4 times to end the Hurricanes winning streak. This was the
first time the Hurricanes have lost a game in over nine
games, clearly the longest winning streak of the season.
“We have been playing our best hockey so far this season and
I don’t think this lost is going to stop us now. I think it
will help us get ready for playoffs,” say’s
Assistant Captain Kyle Houser.
The
Hurricanes will be heading up to Pittsburgh, PA to face off
against the Binghamton Senators on Friday March 14th
at the Blade Runner Ice center. The second game of the
round robin will be against the division leader Hampton Road
Whalers. The winner of the playoffs will have the
opportunity to join the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nationals up
in Marlboro, MA. “It has been a great year and I truly
believe in these boys’s and I know that they believe in each
other as well. I’m not thinking about the road to
Nationals, first we need to get through the CHA playoffs and
then we can focus on the other task,” say’s
