Jr. Hurricanes Go 2 – 1
at EJHL Showcase
The Space Coast Jr. Hurricanes
are making a name for themselves as they go 2-1 at the
inaugural EJHL Showcase in Marlboro, MA. The first game had
the “Canes” facing off against the Metropolitan Jr. B League
Portland Pirates. After a great first half, the score was
2-0 in favor of the Hurricanes. It stayed that way until
the last six minutes of the second half when the Hurricanes
scored three more goals to end the game 5 – 0. The line of
Chris Greer, Shawn Hofschild and Chad Tisza
were on fire as they scored three out of the five goals that
the “Canes” were able to get. The other two goals came off
of the stick of Tyler Vokes on the power play with
both assists going to Jake Ninko.
The second game was against the Mets powerhouse
Valley Forge Minuteman. John Jennings opened the
scoring after receiving a nice pass from behind the net from
John McGinnis. John McGinnis scored the
second goal after picking up a puck from Jeb Goddard,
McGinnis snapped a shot over the shoulder of the
Minuteman goalie. Jeb Goddard scored the final goal
for the Hurricanes on the power play after picking up the
rebound off of Kyle Houser’s point shot. Tommie
Shears was outstanding as usual after clearing 36 out of
37 shots that the Minuteman was able to get.
The final game was against the Washington Little
Caps on Sunday morning were the Hurricanes saw their only
lost of the weekend. “We battled all weekend long and we
proved that the Hurricanes can compete with any Jr. League
in the country. We had many scouts from Jr A teams, as well
as several college scouts talking to several players about
there future and that’s what this is all about,” say’s
Head Coach Shawn Ray.
