Hurricanes Hold on Against UCF Golden Knights

The Golden Knights came in on Sunday to take on the Space Coast Hurricanes Jr. B Team at the Iceplex in Rockledge for an exhibition game.  The Golden Knights are preparing for National as they head to Rochester, NY this coming weekend and the junior Hurricanes are gearing up for the CHA playoffs that will be held in Pittsburgh, PA.  “What a great experience it is for these boy’s to play against college men.  Even though they are a club team, their older, stronger and very well coached group of player’s,” states Head Coach Shawn Ray.

The game was very tight for most of the first period until CHA Leagues Leading goal scorer John Mcginnis fired a shot that went high glove side on UCF goalie Curt Peterson.  That goal came at the 4:43 mark of the first period, but before the first period would end, Jeb Goddard would give the “Canes” a two goal advantage with under one minute left.  The second period had UCF scoring the first goal to make it 2-1, but it was the Jr. Hurricanes that would strike two more times with goals from Tyler Vokes and Jeb Goddard to finish the second period with the Hurricanes up 4 - 1.

The third period got very exciting when the Golden Knights came within one goal to tie the game, but it was Kent Ramsey who picked up a lose puck and shot it into the empty net for the victory.  Both goalies, Shawn Bennett and Tommie Shears shared the net and the defensemen pairing of Jake Ninko and Chris Oertel played a very solid game.
