2009 Tier lll Jr. National Tournament set for March 27-31
The 2009 Jr. Nationals will be
held March 27 thru the 31st in Marlborough, MA.
The Eastern Junior Hocky League website (http://easternjunior.com/nationals_09.php)
will be updated as information becomes available. In addition, this site
will be updated throughout the event and will contain Daily Game Recaps,
Results and Schedule.
Disappointing Weekend in Tampa (February 7,2009)
The Hurricanes left the JP Igloo in Ellenton disappointed
with a 6-5 loss in overtime against the Tampa Bay Bolts. Hindered by a short
bench due to players serving game suspensions for fighting, the Canes
played well but not up to the level Coach Peter Nyman expected. Peter
told the players that "the game of hockey is a game of mistakes, the team
that makes the least amount of mistakes will win". The hurricanes ended up
with more mistake this time.
The Bolts started the scoring 10 minutes into the
1st period. The Hurricanes returned with a goal from Chase Halbert at 2:38
in the first period. The Bolts quickly retaliated scoring again with
1:51 on the clock. The second period started out with Tyler Moran
scoring with the assist from James Francis. Tampa Bay came back with two
more goals but the Canes would not lay down. They adding two
more to the score board with a goal from Tyler Moran and Forrest Berndt with
assists from Jeff Jones, Nick Parise and Shawn Zingler. The third
period opened with a goal from Forrest Berndt and assists Gregory Sauers and
James Francis at 16:40 making the game a 5 - 4 Hurricanes. The
Hurricanes could not hold on to the lead and the Bolts scored to tie the
game with 7:40 left. The game went into a 5:00 minute over time and the
Bolts took the game with 1:16 left in OT.
Hurricanes Rip Through Charleston
Charleston, SC
January 31 and
February 1, 2009:
The visiting Space Coast Hurricanes Jr C. team
successfully departed Charleston, SC with two solid victories over the host
Wolverines.
Saturday evening the
Hurricanes jumped out to a comfortable 3 goal lead after 22 minutes of play.
However, the Wolverines fought back and tied the game at 3 with 2
minutes remaining in the second period.
The Hurricanes refocused during the second intermission and outscored
the Wolverines 3 to 1 in the third period for a 6 to 4 victory.
The line of Tyler Moran, Jefferson Wright and Gregory Sauers combined
for 9 points during the game, while Chase Halbert added a goal and an
assist.
Nicholas Parise also
added an assist while blue liners Jeffrey Jones and Brian Schulker each
contributed to the scoring.
Sunday mornings game was never in
question as the Hurricanes skated to a 7 to 3 victory.
Forrest Berndt, Halbert, Jones, Moran, Sauers,
Schulker and Wright all contributed to the score sheet.
Defenseman AJ Nicholson also notched a goal for
the visiting Hurricanes but also contributed with solid aggressive play at
his own blue line.
The Hurricane goaltending tandem of John Arnold
and Andrew Dzikowski faced a total of 56 shots during the weekend and ended
with a respectable 900% save percentage.
Strong goalkeeping, solid defense, and scoring from
all lines bode well for the Hurricanes as they continue their trek towards
Hockey's second season.
Hurricanes next hit the ice Saturday evening
February 7th at the JP Igloo as they face their West Coast foe

Congratulations to Jeff Jones, Forrest
Berndt, Nick Parise, Shawn Zingler and Andrew Dzikowich for making the SEJHL
All Star Teams.

The All-Star A team had their first game
against the Atlanta Knights on Saturday 1/17. The A team fought hard but
lost the game 6-2. Forrest Berndt and Jeff Jones played hard and
Forrest contributed with an assist.
The All-Star B team included three players from the Hurricane's team
(Nick Parise, Shawn Zingler & Andrew Dzikowich) and Coach Peter Nyman. The B team played their
first game on Sunday 1/18 against the Hampton Roads Green. The boys played a
good game beating Hampton Roads 3-2 with the winning goal from Nick Parise.
The highlight came when the A team played the B team on Sunday.
What a great game.... The A team came out strong in the first period
scoring twice, but the B team came back and tied it up. The game was a nail
biter to the end where the B team took the win 7-6.

The Junior C Hurricanes spent a cold weekend in Atlanta at the MIC
and took away one win and three losses.
The Hurricanes started the weekend out with a great game against the Atlanta
Knights on Saturday morning. They played a good defensive game with 53
Atlanta shots on goalie Andrew Dzikowich with 3 making it in. The Canes were
unable to score against the Knights leaving the game 3-0.
Saturday nights game against the Hampton Whalers Blue was one that was
painful to watch. The Hurricanes could not seem to get into a rhythm
and lost the game 7 -2. The two goals scored were from Jefferson Wright and
James Frances with assists from AJ Nicolson and Chase Halbert.
Sunday Mornings game went much better with a win against the Charleston
Wolverines 3-2. Goals were from Gregory Sauers, Tyler Moran and Colin
Halbert. Assists were from Jefferson Wright, Tyler Moran, Jeff Jones , Brian
Schulker and Forrest Berndt.
The last game was played Monday morning where the Canes played hard against
the Hampton Roads Green. They dominated the game pounding the
Hampton Roads goalie but were unable to score. Final was 3-0.

The SEJHL announces the selection of the
2008-2009 SEJHL Allstar Teams, which represent the future of junior hockey
in the Southeast. The SEJHL Allstars will compete in a series of games
during the SEJHL Southern Showcase in Atlanta, GA January 17 - 19, 2008

The Junior C Hurricanes beat the Tampa Bay Bolt in the 12/6 game
(2-0) and 12/7 game (7-2) . Both were played at the Space Coast Ice
Plex.
The Hurricanes goals in the 12/6 game were from Chase Halbert with an assist
from Brian Schulker at 13:04 in the first Period. The second goal came
from Colin Halbert with an assist from Nick Parise at 19:15 in the third
period.
The Hurricanes goals in the 12/17 game came from Colin Halbert with
the assist from Nick Parise at 11:56 in the first period. Three more goals
came in the second period from Scott Bangart with the assist from Colin
Halbert at 16:20, Chase Halbert with the assist from Matt Goddard at 14:08
and again from Chase Halbert with the assists from Matt Goddard and Andrew
Norelli at 5:05. The Hurricanes kept the scoring going in the third
period with a goal from Nick Parise and assists by Colin Halbert and James
Francis at 10:46. Shane Brown in his debut appearance with the
Hurricanes scored at 12:39 with an assist from Scott Bangart. Michael
Garcia scored at 1:52 left in the third period on a power play with the
assist coming from Scott Bangart.

The Junior C Hurricanes hosted the Tampa Bay Bolts in their first set of
home games. The first game was held Saturday night were the Hurricanes
held a 0-0 score through the first period. The fist goal did not come until
8:12 in the second period coming from Nick Parise with an assist from Colin
Halbert. The Hurricanes had finally awaken and score with 2:18 left in
the second period. The goal came from Tylor Moran with the assist from Harry
Brockman. The Hurricanes scored their third goal in the third period with
the assist coming from Tylor Moran and the goal from Scott Bangart. Tampa
Bay put their first goal on the board with 10:37 seconds left in the third
period, The Hurricanes scored again at 4:58 with the goal going to Chase
Halbert and the assist to Matt Goddard. Tampa Bay scored one last time with
1:31 left in the game leaving the win to the Hurricanes ( 4 to 2 ).
The Second Game of the weekend was played Sunday morning with Tampa Bay
coming out strong scoring the only goal in the first period. They again
started the second period with a goal and the Hurricanes finally got on the
board at 14:35 with Scott Bangart scoring with the assists from James
Francis and Tylor Moran. Tampa Bay scored again at 5:09 but the Hurricanes
retaliated tieing the score with two back to back goals from Chase Halbert
and assists from Harry Brockman ,Shawn Zingler and Tylor Moran. The
game went into a 5 min. overtime with no one scoring and then a shoot out.
Tampa Bay ended up winning the shoot out leaving the game 3 to 4 with Tampa
winning.
